College Preparation Is a Process, Not a Senior-Year Event.
A grade-by-grade framework for helping students prepare earlier, make better decisions and avoid unnecessary last-minute pressure.
Grades 7–8: Build the foundation
The priority is not choosing a college. It is developing stronger habits, exploring interests, building academic awareness and learning how choices begin to shape future options.
Grades 9–10: Build the student profile
Academic performance, course choices, activities, leadership, athletic development and career exploration begin forming a more complete picture of the student.
Grade 11: Prepare and position
Students should become more intentional about college options, testing when relevant, affordability, scholarships, athletic pathways and the information they will need for applications.
Grade 12: Execute and compare
Senior year is where preparation turns into applications, financial comparisons, decisions and transition planning. Strong organization matters because multiple timelines can overlap.
College transition: The pathway continues
Enrollment is not the finish line. Students still need to understand expectations, finances, support systems, academic responsibilities and how to adapt to a new environment.
